The avocado

You may have heard it said that the avocado is a particularly healthy fruit, and there is good reason for this. As well as tasting great (mmm guacamole), the avocado offers significant health benefits. Avocados are high in polyunsaturated fats, the type that help lower the levels of cholesterol in your blood. The contain these fats in much the same way as do vegetable oils, nuts, olives and fatty fish like salmon. Everybody needs a certain level of fats in their diet to maintain good health, and Avocados provide a way to gain that fat in a healthy and beneficial way. When you eat an Avocado you are also getting vitamins, fibre and minerals such folate, with the Avocado containing the highest level of fibre and folate of any vegetable tested.
