Mulled wine


  • >1 tsp whole allspice
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 15 whole cloves
  • Thinly peeled rind of 1 lemon

Place in a piece of double thickness muslin, tied at top with string.

Place 1 bottle red wine, 1/4 – 1/2 cup brown sugar and spice bag in a saucepan.

Heat to simmering, simmer for 10 minutes, then remove spice bag.

Cut 4-6 thin orange slices into quarters and add to wine mixture just before serving.
